Exploration was the best, and I encountered some strong enemies, found some potent weapons, defeated strong bosses, dissected some puzzles, and interacted with peculiar characters holding the stories with their secrets. The world was vast and also multilayered, with secret paths and secret lore, and each time I unlocked a new ability, I found new ways to traipse through areas I thought I had explored entirely cavalierly.
What really gave the game its soul was the atmosphere. Voice work from legends like Robert Belgrade (Alucard from Castlevania) and Kira Buckland added weight to every line, and the haunting soundtrack—especially the guest track by Óscar Araujo—was pure perfection. It felt like I was part of a forgotten myth, told through beautifully illustrated cutscenes and rich world-building.
Yes, it had a few rough edges—some jumps demanded pixel-perfect precision and there's no New Game Plus—but none of that dulled the fire. Chronicles of the Wolf didn’t just echo the spirit of classic Metroidvania games like Castlevania—it honored it, evolved it, and made it feel personal.
