Sounds came from nowhere. And sometimes, I felt like something was behind me, even when nothing was. I didn’t want to look. But I always did and I always regretted it.
Don’t Look Behind didn’t tell me much. Just walk forward, interact, and survive. It sounds easy until the floor disappears, the walls change, or a scream blasts in your ears out of nowhere. Half the time, I was laughing at how jumpy I got. The other half, I was dying and trying repeatedly until I finally figured out what the game wanted from me.
Some levels were just mean; it felt like the game was laughing at me every time I messed up. But that made it kind of fun. I’d die, restart, and then beat it to say, “Gotcha.” That felt good, especially when I started to expect the worst and was still surprised.
It wasn’t the scariest PC Game I’ve ever played, but trust me, it was a very unique experience. I think the fear came more from not knowing what was next. Or when it was coming. Or if I was going the right way. There are many empty hallways, but that just gave me more time to freak myself out.
It only took me an hour or so to finish, but honestly, that was enough. Don’t Look Behind wasn’t about solving puzzles or fighting monsters. It was about staying calm while everything around you screamed at you not to.
