Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days is in Walton City, Texas, 1980. There is chaos in the city after a deadly zombie outbreak, and survival is the only goal. In this game, I had to guide a small group of regular people through destroyed neighbourhoods, searching for safe places to hide, food to eat, and ways to stay alive. Each shelter we found offered temporary safety, but we could never wait too long. The zombies were always coming, so we had to keep moving from one place to the next, hoping the next stop wouldn’t be our last.
Every day felt like a test. I had to send my survivors out to look for supplies, weapons, and tools, knowing that every trip outside was dangerous. Some of them were better at sneaking, others were stronger in fights, but we needed all of them to make it. At night, we braced ourselves as zombies attacked our shelter. If our defences weren’t good enough, people could get hurt or even die. Hunger, injuries, and fear made things more complicated and sometimes, the group struggled to stay together.
What stood out to me was the tension of every choice. Should I risk helping someone or leave them behind to protect the group? Do I try to fight or sneak past the zombies? Nothing was easy, and I could feel the weight of every decision. The city was really dangerous, and each new area had new challenges. I found myself constantly thinking, planning, and adapting.
