Tales of the Shire felt like coming home to a place I’d never been but always wanted to live in. I wasn’t a hero or a warrior or someone on a quest to save the world. And, I was just a Hobbit — short, cozy, and completely content with planting carrots and making dinner.
I started in Bywater, which wasn’t even a proper village yet. Just a quiet little patch of the Shire with a few neighbors and a lot of promise. My Hobbit hole was a mess at first, but slowly I filled it with mismatched furniture, warm rugs, shelves full of jars and flowers I picked myself.
Most days, I didn’t do anything big. I’d wake up, tend my garden, maybe head out to fish a little in the pond down the hill. Sometimes I’d find mushrooms growing wild, or spot a hidden nook with something strange and shiny tucked away. Other days I just cooked. I made second breakfast a real tradition, and invited neighbors over to share whatever I made.
The seasons changed. Rain would roll in, or the sky would turn golden with morning light, and I’d just stand there for a minute and breathe it in. And even though there’s no danger, no epic battle, I still felt like I was building something important. Helping turn Bywater into something real. Being part of a small, simple life — and loving every bit of it.
