Slavania: The Power of Drum dropped me into a strange fairytale world where magic, rhythm, and monster hunting somehow all made sense. I played as a lone sorcerer with a magic spear, tracking down creatures that didn’t wait in some cosy lair—they hunted me back. The combat was wild and floaty, but that spear could be thrown, recalled, and even used to climb walls. It made every fight and platforming section part of the same rhythm.
Then came the rhythm quests. Out of nowhere, I was stomping out music in the middle of a battlefield—and it worked. The world is bizarre and interconnected, with hidden paths, shortcuts, and places I only reached once I unlocked new abilities. And everything looks like it was pulled straight from a hand-painted Eastern European folk tale.
There’s a moral choice system too. The strange locals I met weren’t just background characters—they reacted, and my decisions stuck. Some of the dialogue felt rough (especially in English), but it didn’t break the immersion.
Yeah, there are also some bugs. Sometimes enemies clip, and sometimes combat hitboxes miss. But even with the jank, this game had heart. I wasn’t just playing Metroidvania—I was wandering through a dream wrapped in folklore and magic.
